A MAP testing story:
One of my students raised her hand during the second MAP test and said, "Mrs. Hoerr, I have no idea what this word is..."
The word was somnambulate...say, what?
In retrospect (another word that my 5th graders had), I realized the importance of teaching an exhaustive number of roots!
Did I consider -somn (sleep) or -ambul (walk) essential roots for them? (no...bad on me!)
